Location: SRM is located at Kattankulathur – an hour drive from Chennai.  It is easily accessible by bus or train. VIT is located at Vellore- 2 and half hours’ drive from Chennai. From Bangalore, it takes approximately 3 hours’ drive. To reach VIT, one can land at either Chennai or Bangalore.  From there, a bus or a cab can be taken. 

Area: SRM is considered as one of the top colleges in India. It covers 250 acres of land. On the other hand, VIT is comparatively bigger as it covers 350 acres of land with fabulous infrastructures.

Students: Currently, SRM has approximately 20,000 students in Kattankulathur campus, and  VIT has 24,000 students at Vellore Campus. 

Ranking: SRM is ranked 36th among university rank under MHRD NIRF ranking. On the other hand, VIT is ranked top 18. VIT is also ranked No. 1 among Institutions under ARIIA 2019.

Established: SRM was established in 1985, and VIT was established in 1984. 

Library: The library of SRM abounds in 1,40,518 books.  The library of VIT abounds in  2,23461 books. 

Hostels: SRM has 17 hostels for accommodating students. It is often considered costly hostel facility in the county. On the other hand,  VIT has 23 hostels at Vellore. 

Sports: SRM has 2 football Ground, 5 Tennis court, 1 Basketball court. VIT has 2 football ground, 2 basketball court, 2 tennis court, and a large area for sports.

Intake: SRM’s intake for undergraduate is 4745 and Post Graduate is 315, while VIT’s intake is 6883 for undergraduate and 3361 for Post Graduate. It is way better than SRM. It has a fully flexible credit system which is allowed to students before the commencement of their course. A two-hour window is open to select credit wise course. It clearly distinguishes VIT from SRM in many aspects.

Faculty : The faculty ratio at SRM is 1:11. It means that 1 teacher or faculty lectures 11 students on average. VIT’s faculty ratio is similar to SRM as it is 1: 12 faculty. However, only 35.6% of faculties are Ph.D. holders in SRM. But VIT has 63.6%, Ph.D. faculties.

Placement: SRMs Placement is considered the best as out of 4351 graduated students, 2874 students got placed and 1384 students went for higher study. It means that 97% of students were placed.

Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Wipro, HP, Dell, L&T visit campus for placement. It has an average salary package of 3.8 Lac per annum. 

VIT placement, on the other hand, is 2311 out of 3891 graduate students. Rest, 1032 students went for higher studies. It has an average salary package of 5.20 Lac. Companies like Google, Amazon, Congizant, ZOHO, Wipro, HP, Dell, L&T, and more. They all visit campuses for placement.

Funding for Research: SRM has received 15.2 Cr for research on the campus, and VIT has received 16.2 Cr for research on the campus. 

Annual Expenditure: SRM expended 43.4 Cr on lab, library, and infrastructure last year and VIT expended 48 Cr. SRM expends approx. 314 Cr annually on salary and maintenance of campus, whereas VIT expends 636 Cr.
